【Daily Tips】Happiness of Music

I feel that listening to music makes me happy. Have you ever felt the same way, or heard someone say this? Many studies have been conducted on this topic. According to Reference 1, listening to music lowers the levels of a stress hormone called cortisol. In other words, music helps reduce the impact of stress.

Furthermore, in Kosuke Itoh’s book The Brain and Music (Reference 2), it is explained that music plays a role in providing the brain’s auditory system with the information it craves. I believe humans are naturally wired to feel joy when receiving information. Most people possess intellectual curiosity and feel a sense of satisfaction when they learn or discover something new.

Lately, I’ve been immersed in listening to music myself. When I listen to my favorite Japanese artists, such as Sakanaction and King Gnu, I feel a deep sense of satisfaction. It also lifts my mood and boosts my motivation to work. These emotional shifts may suggest that music is influencing other hormones, such as dopamine. Overall, I truly feel that music enhances my happiness. Why not try listening to plenty of songs by your own favorite artists?
